The EDA Cat. B project, LoRaCo (Long Range Communications), carried out since 2023, concerns research into combining two complementary communication technologies, HF and Satcom, by integrating them based on the IP protocol in order to obtain a reliable and resilient link. This connection can be flexibly and dynamically controlled through an appropriate configuration to provide capabilities best suited to the current needs of the operation and the situation in the surrounding environment.
The project is being carried out in a consortium with:
- the Military University of Technology;
- the Military Institute of Communications – National Research Institute;
- the Research and Development Centre of the Maritime Technology Centre S.A.;
- Rohde & Schwarz GmbH, OHB Digital Connect GmbH;
- Thales Belgium;
- Thales SIX GTS France SAS;
- Leonardo S.p.A.;
- the Italian Aerospace Research Centre;
- Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace AS.
To date, KenBIT has developed a multi-instance, multi-stream tactical message simulator supporting the following services:
- generation and exchange of FFT/IP2 messages with NFFI 1.3 or MTF-FFT;
- generation and handling of the MIP DEM 3.1 format;
- handling of the XMPP format (JChat);
- generation of email messages based on SMTP, IMAP and POP3, supporting the exchange of formatted APP11(C) messages;
- generation and transmission of audio/video streams using UDP.
